٢٥٤. وَقَالَ (عليه السلام): يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ كُنْ وَصِيَّ نَفْسِكَ فِى مَالِكَ وَاعْمَلْ فِيهِ مَا تُؤْثِرُ أَنْ يُعْمَلَ فِيهِ مِنْ بَعْدِكَ.
254. Amīr al-mu’minīn, peace be upon him, said: O’ son of Adam, be your own representative in the matter of your property and do about it whatever you want to be done with it after your death. [1]

[1] The meaning of it is that if a person desires that after his death a portion of his property should be spent on charity, he should not wait for his death but spend it wherever he desires even during his lifetime; for it is possible that after his death his successors may not act upon his will or he may not get an opportunity to will.
A Persian couplet says: Give away money and property while you are living as after you it would be out of your control.
